House prices in Spain rose on a quarterly basis for the first time since the middle of 2010 in the third quarter of this year, reports El Pais. According to figures released by the National Statistics Institute (INE), house prices climbed 0.7 percent in the period July-September from the previous three months.
Prices on average have fallen over 40 percent from their highs around the end of 2007 after more than doubling over the course of a decade-long boom that turned to bust. The Spanish economy emerged from an extended recession in the third quarter of this year, but the unemployment rate of 26% remains a major impediment to a recovery in the housing market, hampering domestic demand. Foreign buyers, particularly from Britain, are helping boost the market, with cash buyers in an especially strong position to snap up some of the bargains around. Continue reading
Irish holidaymakers and owners of property in Spain will soon be able to travel directly between Ireland and Spain with their vehicles by ferry, with the launch in January 2014 of a new route between the two countries.
The weekly service, operated by LD Lines and the first of its kind, will link the southern Irish port town of Wexford with St Nazaire on the west coast of France and Gijón in northern Spain. Continue reading
